- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 big onion chopped
- 1 green pepper chopped
- 4 garlic cloves minced
- 1.5 pounds ground beef
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 can 15 oz crushed tomatoes
- 1 can 15 oz tomato sauce
- 1 can 15 oz kidney beans, drained
- 1 can 15 oz black beans, drained
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- Optional toppings: cheese sour cream, green onions
Heat oil in a big pot
Add onions and pepper. Cook until soft
Add garlic. Cook for 1 more minute
Add ground beef. Cook until brown
Drain extra fat from the pot
Add chili powder, cumin, paprika, and cayenne
Mix in salt, pepper, and brown sugar
Pour in crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce
Add beans and beef broth
Let it boil gently
Turn down heat and simmer 30 minutes
Stir now and then so it doesn’t stick
