Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Ground Beef.
  • 1 whole Large Onion diced.
  • 1 whole Green Bell Pepper diced.
  • 1 1/2 cups Ketchup.
  • 1/2 cup Water.
  • 2 tablespoons Brown Sugar.
  • 1 tablespoon Mustard.
  • 1 tablespoon Chili Powder.
  • 1 teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes.
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce.
  • Salt and Pepper to taste.
  • 8 whole Hamburger Buns.
  • 2 tablespoons Butter.

Instructions

Brown the Meat

  • Place the skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef to the pan. Cook it until it turns brown. Use your spoon to break it up.

Add the Vegetables

  • Throw in the diced onions and peppers. Stir them into the beef. Cook until the onions are soft. This takes about five minutes.

Drain the Fat

  • Carefully pour out the extra grease. This makes the dish less oily. Use a colander or a spoon.

Mix the Sauce

  • Add ketchup, water, and brown sugar. Stir well to combine everything. The sauce will look bright red.

Add the Spices

  • Pour in the mustard and chili powder. Add the Worcestershire sauce and red pepper. Sprinkle in salt and black pepper.

Simmer the Mixture

  • Turn the heat down to low. Let it simmer for fifteen minutes. The sauce will get thick and rich.

Toast the Buns

  • Spread butter on the bun faces. Grill them in a separate pan. They should be golden and warm.

Serve it Up

  • Spoon the meat onto the buns. Serve them while they are hot. Enjoy your messy, tasty meal!

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef for less mess.
  • Do not skip the green bell peppers.
  • They add a nice crunch and flavor.
  • Let the sauce simmer slowly.
  • This helps the flavors blend well.
  • Toasting the buns is very important.
  • It stops the bread from getting soggy.
  • You can add extra hot sauce if needed.
  • Some people like a spicy kick.
  • Always taste the sauce before serving.
  • Add more salt if it needs it.
