Equipment

  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Pastry blender
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Sharp Chef Knife
  • Measuring Cups
  • Pastry brush

Ingredients

  • 3 cups ALL PURPOSE FLOUR
  • 1 tbsp BAKING POWDER
  • 1 tbsp SUGAR
  • 1 tsp SALT
  • 0.5 cup COLD UNSALTED BUTTER
  • 1 cup DICED COOKED HAM
  • 1 cup CHEDDAR CHEESE
  • 1 cup HEAVY CREAM

Instructions

  • Preheat your kitchen oven to 400 degrees right away. Line a large flat baking sheet with clean parchment paper. Set this prepared pan aside on your kitchen counter for later use.
  • Whisk the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt inside your bowl. Add the cold cubed butter into the dry mixture carefully. Cut the butter using your pastry blender until it looks like crumbs.
  • Toss the diced savory ham and shredded cheddar cheese into the flour. Stir them gently so the pieces are coated well with the mixture. This ensures the fillings are spread evenly in every single bite.
  • Pour the cold heavy cream into the bowl slowly while stirring gently. Mix with a fork just until a soft dough begins to form. Do not overmix the dough or the scones will become tough.
  • Turn the sticky dough out onto a lightly floured clean counter. Pat the dough gently into a neat eight inch round circle shape. The dough should be about one inch thick all around.
  • Cut the dough circle into eight equal triangle wedges using a sharp knife. Place the wedges onto your prepared baking sheet with some space between them. Brush the tops lightly with a tiny bit of extra heavy cream.
  • Bake the scones in the hot oven for twenty to twenty five minutes. They should look beautiful, puffy, and golden brown on top. Let them cool slightly on the pan before serving them warm.

Notes

  • Keep your butter very cold until the exact moment you mix it in.
  • Use fresh ingredients for Joanna Gaines Savory Ham and Cheddar Scones Recipe for best flavor.
  • Do not overwork the pastry dough or your scones will turn out hard.
  • Chill the shaped dough triangles for ten minutes before baking for extra flakiness.
  • Grate your own cheddar cheese because pre-packaged cheese does not melt as well.
