Equipment

  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk or large spoon.
  • Medium saucepan
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting Board

Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh broccoli florets.
  • 2 cups cooked white rice.
  • 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup.
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream.
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese.
  • 1/2 cup melted butter.
  • 1 cup crushed Ritz crackers.
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder.
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt.

Instructions

  • Set your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease your baking dish with butter or spray.
  • Steam the fresh broccoli until it is slightly soft. Do not overcook the vegetables. Drain well.
  • Combine soup, cream, and spices in a bowl. Whisk until the mixture is very smooth.
  • Add rice, broccoli, and half the cheese. Stir gently to coat everything in sauce.
  • Pour the mixture into your prepared baking dish. Spread it out evenly with a spoon.
  • Mix crushed crackers with melted butter. Sprinkle them over the top of the casserole.
  • Bake for 30 minutes until the top is brown. The cheese should be bubbly and hot.

Notes

  • Use fresh broccoli for the best texture.
  • Frozen broccoli can make the dish too watery.
  • Always grate your own cheddar cheese.
  • Pre-shredded cheese does not melt as well.
  • Let the casserole sit for five minutes after baking.
  • This helps the sauce set perfectly.
  • Add a pinch of cayenne for a tiny kick.
